Head Brewer
Keswick Brewing Company have always focused on quality and the environment since starting brewing in 2006. This year celebrating it’s 18th birthday and also the 5th birthday of the onsite tap room – The Fox Tap. The Fox Tap has won West Cumbria Pub of the Year 2024 and has been in the Good Beer Guide for the last two years. The brewery has won many awards over the years including 2 Gold awards at the SIBA National awards this year with an overall Silver also achieved.
We are looking for an experienced brewer who is passionate about beer and cask ale production and is ready to take a leading role in our brewing operations. Who knows the importance of attention to detail, is well-organised and can work well as part of a team or independently. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are also very important. We are a small team so everyone works together to produce great beer.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Production of wort
- Fermentation monitoring and management including measurements every other weekend as needed.
- Yeast management
- Tasks including dry-hopping, racking, cask washing, tank cleans etc.
- Monitoring supplies to maintain brew schedules.
- Deliveries
- Work with the Brew team to achieve the highest standards
- Maintain a high standard of data logging and record keeping.
- Working to a brewery schedule to ensure that the beer can be released in line with the business needs.
- Ensure the cleanliness, efficiency, and functionality of brewery equipment.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety.
- Ensure to work in a way which minimises wastage and excess cost without compromising product quality. Always striving to be more environmentally friendly.
- Have an attention to detail and pride in work.
- Be highly organised with the ability to problem solve.
- Provide a superior customer service at all times in person and via telephone calls and emails.
- Research improvements in equipment, processes, packing materials, etc and keep up to date on relevant changes to legislation. Feed relevant information back to management and help put improvements in place to improve quality and beer experience.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings when required and share best practice with colleagues.
- Help train new members of staff
- Represent Keswick Brewing Company at exhibitions and events (sometimes during evenings and weekends)
ABOUT YOU:
- 5 years brewing experience in a commercial brewery ideally with some of this in a senior role.
- A relevant qualification in brewing preferable
- Experience using live yeast would be ideal.
- Ability to work both independently and with the management and brew team.
- Comfortable with shift work, including evenings and weekends.
