Details: full time position, 8am-4pm Monday-Friday
Campervan Brewery is going through an exciting period of growth. Having received industry praise for creating Extra Black, Scotland’s first Gluten Free Nitro Porter and being awarded Scotland’s Small Brewery of the Year 2023, it is the perfect time to join the team. The brewery has just undergone a phenomenal expansion, allowing the production of even higher quality beers in a more efficient way.
Due to this growth, we are looking for an experienced Head Brewer to join our production team. The successful candidate must have 5 years’ previous experience within a commercial brewery and a passion for developing a passionate team of brewers. The Head Brewer position is responsible for creating production and packaging schedules, managing the production team, overseeing all production activities, ensuring that our quality and consistency standards are met, working with our sales and marketing teams for continued growth.
Main duties:
Creating production plans to ensure stock of all core products on time.
Ordering raw materials and inventory control.
Managing the production team, including training and development plans to ensure staff satisfaction.
Oversee all production activities, from wort production to cellaring and packaging into keg and can.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with internal quality control programmes (SOPs, SALSA, health & safety)
Responsible for the overall quality, hygiene and record keeping for the production site.
Responsible for preventative maintenance within production to ensure functionality.
Working with Sales and Marketing Managers for creation of collabs and limited editions beers.
Working with Sales Manager for forecasting, packaging splits and costing of new products.
Working with Marketing Manager for relevant marketing strategies and social media activities.
Working with Directors to achieve annual production goals and continue year on year growth
Working with Directors on long term continual improvement projects within the production team.
Representing brewery at festivals and industry events.
Creating relationships in the community with artisanal producers and breweries.
Supporting with ad-hoc duties and responsibilities where necessary.
Essential:
Relevant qualification (MSc/BSc Brewing and Distilling, IBD certificates, Engineering, Chemistry, Food Science etc.)
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a commercial brewery.
Management experience.
Commercial recipe development.
Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
Strong work ethic with the ability to multitask and problem solve.
Enthusiastic passion for craft beer and a drive to implement positive changes in a growing business.
Must be physically able to lift 25kg malt bags and move 50L stainless steel kegs.
Desirables:
Experience with Microcan canning line,
Proficiency in Breww software.
Sensory/tasting experience.
Clean driving license.
Forklift experience.
Mixed fermentation and/or barrel ageing experience.
