MP Philip Davies honoured by beer industry at Saltaire Brewery
Saltaire Brewery’s famous monthly beer club was the venue for a special brewing and pub industry award presentation to Shipley MP, Philip Davies on Friday 25 April. Beer Club regulars saw Mr Davies receive his Parliamentary Beer Champion award from the Brewery’s Managing Director, Tony Gartland.
In January, 100 MPs were given Parliamentary Beer Champion status to recognise their support of the brewing and pub industries, and for successfully campaigning against the Beer Duty Escalator, which resulted in a reduction in beer duty of 1p a pint for two years in a row.
The industry award is backed by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) and the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA). Bradford CAMRA’s Chair, David Boothroyd, was at the presentation.
Tony said, “As a SIBA member, we really appreciate the support that this group of MPs has given our industry and I’m pleased that our own Beer Champion and MP, Philip Davies agreed to come to the Brewery to receive his certificate. We raised a glass to him and his fellow parliamentarians with some of Yorkshire’s most popular beers!”
“I am very honoured to receive this award. The beer industry is a very important part of the local and national economy, and we are lucky to have fantastic local brewers such as Saltaire Brewery who are thriving due to the quality of their products. It is important that the Government and MPs continue to give support to this industry,” said Philip Davies.
Saltaire Brewery’s Beer Club is hugely popular, regularly attracting visitors to the area from across the north of England, and is held on the last Friday of most months from 4.00pm until 10.00pm. It showcases Saltaire beers as well as guest ales from around the UK. Tickets are available from the Brewery or online at www.eventbrite.com. Call 01274 594959 to check availability.
