Major Industry Award Win For Springhead’s Flagship Brew
Last week local craft micro-brewery Springhead, based near Retford, North Notts, were presented with a Silver Award at the East Midlands Champion Beer of Britain competition, to add to the rafter of awards received for their flagship brew, Roaring Meg, which also celebrates the 25thyear in production this month.
Their MD, Helen Teasdale, was presented with the prominent industry award at the Derby City Charter Beer Festival, where she said:
“A huge thanks to the organisers of the event and the competition judges – we are delighted to have received the silver award in the Golden Ales category. Our region is proud to produce some fantastic craft brews so Meg, known as ‘the big blonde’ to her drinkers, was up against some stiff competition, and we’re glad to see her recognised with the award tonight!
“2015 is Roaring Meg and our brewery’s 25th anniversary, so it’s great to mark our silver anniversary with a prestigious silver award, and we hope you will join us in raising a glass to celebrate at our Summer Festival, or at the Roaring Meg Day parties we are planning to thank our supporters on the 31st.”
Springhead’s Summer Festival, takes place on the 25th-26th of July, at their state of the art brewery site in Laneham, nr Retford, and is free entry throughout the weekend, with live music, a great selection of beers and freshly made locally-sourced food, kids’ entertainers, a free bouncy castle, and brewery tours (on the Sunday of the festival).
Roaring Meg’s 25th birthday events take place on the 31st of July, (named national Roaring Meg Day in Jeff Evans’ excellent book ‘A Beer A Day’), and includes some great entertainment, offers and giveaways, as well as a free buffet (unfortunately not available at the Fothergill’s event).
