Broughton Ales & local legend team up for Clic Sargent
Lee Mitchell is ready to put down the pints in exchange for his old hiking boots. Lee, the Duty Manager at the Alexander Graham Bell on George Street, will head off to climb the 19,341-foot goliath known as Kilimanjaro in mid-March.
With a goal to raise £5000 for the cancer charity CLIC Sergeant, Lee looked for willing sponsors for his climb. Together with local Scottish brewery Broughton Ales, they were able to turn pints into donations and raised £710 for CLIC Sergeant over the past several months. The pub sold a specially brewed hoppy IPA from Broughton called the Kilimanjaro. For every pint sold, Broughton pledged to donate 7p to Lee’s fundraising mission. With its strong flavour and balanced taste, locals started referring to it as “first class kili.” They managed to sell over 10,000 pints of the Kilimanjaro.
On the evening of 3 March 2014, was a farewell celebration for Lee and his journey up Kilimanjaro. “We were thrilled and proud to contribute to Lee’s fundraising mission and we wish him the best of luck on his climb,” said Bret Retallick, the Managing Director of Broughton Ales.
