Lead Brewer
We are hiring a new lead brewer at Barney’s Beer based in central Edinburgh.
We’ve been part of the Scottish indie beer scene since 2012. We still make traditional favourites like Volcano IPA & Stones Throw lager but the past 3 or 4 years has seen a transformation in our line up with to include hop forward pales, imperial stouts, sours & mixed ferms
We are a tight knit team who share a desire to challenge and innovate: to make the best beer we can. Located at Summerhall in the centre of Edinburgh. We are capacity restricted but get a lot out of a relatively small kit. Instead of chasing volume growth we channel our ambition into the quality of what we produce and enjoying the environment we work in.
What you should bring to the team

Degree in brewing, or related discipline or alternative technical training

2 to 5 years hands on experience in a brewery and direct experience of brewing a variety of styles

A nerdy constant thirst for brewing knowledge, technical improvement and innovation

Awareness of brewery h & s, ensuring compliance with food safety, regulatory standards and accreditation requirements

A valid forklift ticket, driving license & personal alcohol license is useful
Overall responsibility for

Operation of brewhouse, cellaring, dry-hopping, packaging keg, can & cask

Process & raw material management using Breww and operating to SIBA NCR standards (we actually operate to SALSA standard but are no longer registered)

Improvements in production methods, novel raw materials use & efficiency

Recipe development & collabs

There are no line management responsibilities, but you will be expected to assist & help coordinate brewery assistant tasks
