Hop Union Brewery based in Bristol is looking for a motivated and experienced brewer to join our growing team. Hop Union Brewery is a family run business, we have been brewing for over 16 years producing craft beer in cask, keg and cans. Our Brewhouse is 27HL and only 3 years old, we have recently invested in a 150L pilot kit to experiment with new recipes.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performing daily Brewhouse operations to produce wort in line with recipes and quality control – following recipes and procedures, sampling and record keeping, cleaning and organisation of brewery.
- You will need to show you are flexible & hard-working both as part of a team and un-supervised.
- Managing staff within the brewery.
- Performing daily brewing operations to deliver beer in spec and ready to package according to the production schedule – managing and controlling fermentations (cropping, sampling, testing, data recording, troubleshooting) dry hopping and conditioning (carbonating, chilling) and additional barrel operations when needed.
- Cleaning barrels.
- Filling Barrels with processed beer.
- Serving fresh beer to the public in the brewery shop.
- Helping with delivering if needed – full clean driving licence required.
- Maintaining a safe, tidy and hygienic production facility according to SOPs, HACCP, SIBA FSQ and Safety policies and ISO 22000.
- Operating as part of a production Team; brewing and packaging as needed.
- Weekend Checks.
Tasks that might be included in the role:
- Performing QC procedures ready-to-package sign offs.
- Packaging operations including cleaning and sterilisation of machines, kegging, canning, boxing, stacking pallets and labelling.
- Forklift operation.
- Contributing to events, tours and festivals and representing the brewery in public.
- Ensuring that the quality of product leaving the Brewery is always excellent.
- Increasing your understanding of the art and science of brewing through study and investigation.
The following will greatly help you with being successful in your application:
- Previous commercial brewing experience.
- IBD qualifications (minimum General Certificate) or an MSc in Brewing are also desirable.
- Good at keeping busy, time management and proactivity.
You will have Key performance indicators which will include.
- Increasing quality and efficiency within the brewery
- Contributing to social media growth
- Helping with designing recipes
- Ensuring Food Safety & Quality procedures are adhered to.
- Keeping Standard operational procedures up to date.
