About Cross Borders:
A brewery whose origins trace back to an illicit biscuit cartel run by our two founders in primary school. Cross Borders is the result of years of friendship, hard work, and a refusal to grow up. Based in leafy Midlothian we brew braw beer you’ll want to drink again and again.
Our range of cask and keg products have received numerous awards over the years and we have expanded brewing capacity three times since opening 8 years ago. We now have three pubs within the group as well as an onsite brewery taproom so understandably, the majority of our liquid goes into our own estate. However, we have exciting plans afoot to re-enter the packaged beer market with a new range of small batch bottled beers in the very near future, so now is a really exciting time to join the business.
We are looking for a brewer with a strong track record for promoting quality assurance, production efficiency and a positive work environment. You will work closely with the head brewer focusing on wort production, fermentation management, cellaring tasks, beer transfer tasks and recipe development both in continuously improving our core range and creating regular special releases.
This role is for an experienced brewer with a strong knowledge of the brewing process and who is adaptable to varying workflows. Our brew kit is a manually operated 10bbl plant, no fancy programmes or sitting back and pushing buttons, or heaven forbid – operating the brewhouse from your mobile phone. It’s a hands-on job and we believe that it’s all the better for it.
We think of what we do as” Graft Beer”, our brewers are up close and personal with the ingredients and the processes involved in making our cracking range of beers. So, you’ll need to be physically fit and not shy of a bit of hard work to succeed in the role.
You’ll also need to be comfortable working autonomously for a good part of your working week – we put a lot of trust and faith into our people and we believe that gets better results.
