Brewery Assistant – 40 hours per week Overview An opportunity has arisen to join the team here at 8 Sail Brewery. We are a community driven successful rural business with plans to continue to grow having increased trade over 300% in the past three years. Due to this continued growth we are looking to take on additional staff within our brew team. We have a strong cask presence and also produce bottle conditioned beers. We have recently begun to keg beers and are in the process of designing a canned beer range.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn alongside an experienced head brewer producing award winning beers as we develop our beer range. The Brewery Assistant works in partnership with the Head Brewer and is responsible for all tasks in the assistance of the brewing and bottling process, such as bottle filling, cask and keg filling, beer transfers and cleaning.
Ideally you should be willing to work flexibly, within reason, when required in order to support the brewing, bottling and packaging processes. some flexibility on start and finish times will be required. It is important that you enjoy practical work and that you are prepared to do a job which may be physically demanding with heavy lifting at times, some work will be outside. The brewery can be noisy and caution is necessary with some of the equipment and machinery. In return, expert on the job training will be given in order to develop the appropriate skills and knowledge. As well as in house support you will be encouraged to further develop your knowledge through professional brewing courses.
The ability to work well in our team and get along with everyone (we’re a friendly bunch) is absolutely essential. Main responsibilities will include, but not be limited to; Cleaning casks Packaging into cask & bottle Assisting the brewing team throughout the brewing process Beer brewing – operating and monitoring brewery equipment Assembling, dispatching and loading orders General warehouse duties Serving off sales customers when necessary. Quality control of the beer Managing stock control Receiving and handling raw materials Cleaning and sterilising vessels, casks, and production area Perform general maintenance tasks Personal Requirements
This is a physically demanding role so applicants will need to be strong, healthy and physically fit Enthusiasm to learn all aspects of craft brewing Good practical and manual skills Be reliable and responsible regarding Hygiene, Health, Safety and Environmental issues
Good observational skills Flexibility and ability to work on a range of jobs Numeracy – be able to weigh and measure Good communication skills Ability to work alone and as part of a team Possess a full driving licence Appreciation of basic office computer systems Salary.
