Overview:
Moorhouse’s has acquired the brewing rights for SQUAWK beers and is looking for a Lead Brewer to join the team to focus and grow all their beers across the existing customer base and beyond. To achieve this, Moorhouses has invested in a smaller, dedicated brewhouse with packaging equipment and you will play a key role in making this all happen. This is a multi-faceted role, that will involve all aspects of brewing (Moorhouse’s and Squawk), cellaring, dry hopping and packaging into cask, keg and can and is a rare opportunity to have a creative impact on the future direction of a brewery.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Reporting to and working with the Head Brewer you will lead a hands on role in all aspects of production, end to end, from raw materials to finished packaged product.
- Have creative impact and influence on new beer design within the team with the emphasis on creative, modern beers that push the boundaries. Developing Collab’s and new opportunities, while also having a continuous improvement mindset on current beers and recipes in the portfolio.
- To assist the on-going installation and commissioning of the new brewhouse and vessels.
- To work with the Head Brewer to drive improvements and consistency in all aspects of operations. Production-Packaging-Quality-H+S etc.
- To work with the Head Brewer, Operations, Administration and Marketing to ensure all beer meets the required schedule.
- To drive improvements in efficiencies and targeted KPI’s
- Ordering of raw material etc and to keep accurate records within the brewery software system.
- Any other duties as required by the business which may include manual handling, packaging and delivering at peak times.
Skills and Requirements (Essential):
- Minimum of 3 Years brewing experience in a commercial brewery.
- Degree in Brewing or relevant field or IBD certificate/diploma equivalent or other brewing qualification.
- Design and creation of new recipes.
- Experience with Brewing all styles of beers.
- Packaging into cask, keg and can SKU’s
- Experience with maintaining SALSA, HACCAP and food safety standards.
- Experience with laboratory methods and quality control.
- Experience with Brew-man or BREW or similar CFM software.
- Full clean UK Driving Licence.
- Computer literate. Word. Excel etc
- Ability to lift 25kg weight
Skills and Requirements (Advantageous):
- Experience with a 4 vessel European style brewhouse.
- SALSA level 3
- COSHH and confined spaces training
- Experience of CAPEX projects.
- Experience in a supervisorial role and training.
- Fork-lift truck licence
