Harviestoun Brewery has been crafting some of the UK’s most lauded beers for over 40 years. As an independent, family-owned business, we take great pride in our heritage and in the quality of our award-winning brews.
We’re now looking to appoint only our third Head Brewer in four decades — a rare opportunity for an ambitious brewer to shape the future of one of Scotland’s most respected breweries.
The Role
As Head Brewer, you will take full ownership of our brewing operations. You’ll lead a small, skilled team and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the brewery, including:
- Maintaining a safe, clean and efficient working environment
- Ensuring full compliance with H&S, Food Safety, Regulatory and SALSA standards
- Stock and materials management, including accurate forecasting
- Planning and scheduling of brewing operations
- Leading the development of new beers and seasonal releases
- Regular review of the existing range and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Driving innovation in brewing methods and packaging formats
- Hands-on quality control of all products
- Overseeing preventative and reactive maintenance
- Supporting and developing the brewery team
This is a key leadership role within the business. You’ll work closely with the Board to shape and deliver a new strategic vision — with exciting developments ahead, including plans for a taproom and site enhancements.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a Head Brewer who is not only technically skilled but also brings energy, creativity and leadership to the role. Ideally, you will have:
- 3–5 years’ experience in brewing and production leadership
- Strong people and communication skills
- A thorough understanding of brewing records, compliance, and stock control
- Good working knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems and IT
- Experience managing and mentoring a small team
- A personal licence (or willingness to gain one)
- Experience with capital projects is an advantage
